Wheelchair Basketball with Issy
Read transcript
Issy: My name’s Issy and I play wheelchair basketball
Issy: When I was eight months, I had a spinal tumour.
Issy: When doctors removed it, ah, there was damage left to my spinal cord, so yeah, I haven’t been able to walk since.
Issy: I got into basketball when my mum forced me to a ‘come and try’ day and got hooked.
Issy: When I started, I wasn’t strong enough to get the ball to reach the basket.
Issy: Then I started doing some training, and I’ve definitely come a long way.
Issy: I’ve got a couple of medals, and one day I’d love to play in the Paralympics.
Issy: Playing basketball has definitely helped my confidence.
Issy: It’s motivated me to take better care of myself and my body, to be able to play at the best that I can.
Issy: It’s really good to feel like you belong to something that’s bigger than yourself
